Back in 2016 I purchased an inexpensive GBA emulator and tried to [curate the top 100 GBA games](https://discourse.codinghorror.com/t/curating-a-list-of-the-best-game-boy-advance-games/7581/6) for it.

This year I’m looking at a more ambitious and modern handheld emulator, the [RG350M](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0886H6SNV):

It gets consistently [great reviews](https://www.google.com/search?q=rg350m+review), apparently it has a [JZ4770 CPU](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingenic_Semiconductor) and runs [OpenDingux](https://github.com/retrogamehandheld/OpenDingux).

It also emulates a lot more systems, but I’m avoiding the older ones since I figure the GBA emulator adequately covered the true old time classics, and we’re interested in the newer systems here in 2020. That means:

`PS1、CPS1、CPS2、FBA、NEOGEO、SFC (SNES)、MD (GENESIS)、`

My philosophy is there’s no point in loading up these things with literally every ROM ever released for the respective systems. That’s too overwhelming. It’s better to select the top 100 titles released for each platform, maybe even less?

So each reply here will be an attempt to find (or curate) the top 100 titles – or less, depending how many games were released for the respective platform – to load on the system.

I’m thinking about skipping CPS1, CPS2, and FBA as those are basically arcade game emulators, versus the home console systems.

Thinking maybe NeoGeo should be in the arcade category as well, and thus skipped given its hybrid status… 🤔

> This year I’m looking at a more ambitious and modern handheld emulator, the [RG350M](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0886H6SNV?tag=codihorr-20)

(Remember that the “m” basically means “metal case”)

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I decided to try out the latest version, the RG351P.

This one I bought pre-configured off etsy with a 128GB SD card.. which I converted to a fancier name brand 256GB SD card I had laying around. (I don’t trust no-name SD cards..)

 ![image](https://discourse-cdn.codinghorror.com/uploads/default/original/3X/c/2/c22477d41a583eb7d900d15a201748064184a34d.jpeg)

> This RG351 is using the same CPU as the Odroid Go Advance, RGB10, ZPG Pro, and the RK2020 so how is this any different? To start the RG351 has dual analog sticks, dual stereo speakers, and a vibration motor built in to the handheld console
>
> - CPU: RK3326 quad-core 1.3GHz “1.5Ghz”
> - GPU: Mali-G31 MP2
> - RAM: 1GB DDR3
> - Display: 3.5 inch IPS @ 320×480
> - Battery: 3500 mAh, up to 8 hours
> - Dual Stereo, MicroSD max 256GB
> - 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g/n, 3.5mm Audio Jack, Vibration Motor

The older model RG350 in comparison

> - CPU: JZ4770 dual-core 1.0 GHz
> - GPU: Vivante G850
> - RAM: 512MB DDR2
> - Display: 3.5 inch IPS @ 320×240
> - Battery: 2500 mAh, up to 6 hours.
> - Dual stereo, MicroSD max 128GB
> - (no wifi, no vibration)

Here’s a little review showing what systems it can do

https://www.youtube.com/embed/huIrZdmpY9w?feature=oembed&wmode=opaque

This one is [running ArkOS](https://github.com/christianhaitian/arkos/releases) which is getting quite popular, and I can see why: it’s very clean and simple:

[![](https://discourse-cdn.codinghorror.com/uploads/default/original/3X/a/9/a9a68a9e6499fbc27b1ec6910bfbe8033422dbae.jpeg "ArkOS - My New Favorite RG351P Operating System") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBYMKrf775o)

I was also able to do an online update of ArkOS using a spare random USB / ethernet adapter and a USB-A / USB-C converter, too, which was nice!

I believe the metal version of this is the one with built in wifi, but honestly the plastic version does feel a bit better to me in hand. And it’s cheaper!

The reason Sonic and Ecco aren’t on there is GameCube, Nintendo 3DS, and Switch had them covered in Sega compilations.

After some formatting work I had to take off 6 games, some cancelled or misnamed (in the Zelda: Oracle series) and two I didn’t like after all (The Powerpuff Girls[: Bad Mojo Jojo], awful design, and Azure Dreams, looks too much like Pokémon)…

It looks like the scene has definitely moved on to Android based emulation which makes sense; the leader is the Ayn Odin which is Snapdragon 845 (think flagship 2019 Android phone) based.

Not to mention the Steam Deck, though IMO the Steam Deck is kinda overkill in size and power unless you are dead set on emulating the PS3.
