The Pontiac Aztek and the Perils of Design by Committee

Can’t spell it right, still love it.

These positive posts are all posts by GM companies. I read a lot of blogs and suspect a lot of the gramatically correct, very simple sentences and all with the phrase ‘I love my Aztec’. Auto companies have demonstrated what fools we are by the products they produce, and now confirm it with remedial propaganda tactics.

If u dont like azteks thats fine cuz we’re all entitled to an opinion but GM and the people that didn’t like the aztek can kiss my ass. I rolled my aztek and I still think to this day that the thing saved my life. I did end up breaking my neck, spine, and right knee but I believe if it had been any other vehicle, I would have died. It had great frontal visibility and plenty of room for me and my daughter plus it was great for moving, when I took out the backseats I was able to get my whole couch in there. So screw u if the car was no good for u-i still plan on getting another used aztek when i get enough money saved

i absolutely love the aztek, since the first time that i saw one on the street, and then i just started seeing more and more, i think they are really cool, most of my friends dont like them, they say that they are horrible… and i have a friend who owns one im thinkin about gettin one soon

I bought a 2001 Aztek GT fully loaded, leather, heads up display, sliding cargo tray (what a great feature … never saw it on any other car ever again) and pneumatically controlled rear leveling system with trailer package (extra oil cooling capacity, better tranny, etc)
I have 135k miles as of 1/2009 and my only dissapointment is they stopped making it.
LOOK PEOPLE it depends on what YOU USE YOUR CAR FOR!! In my case I have two scouts in the family - and at least once EVERY MONTH for YEARS I have volunteer drive either of my kids into a campsite. It’s not exactly off roading, so I don’t need a suburban … and a Lexus, BMW, Murano, Mercedes would look goofy going into some of the scout camp sites (not to mention get scratched up). The Aztec turned out to be the PERFECT COMBINATIOn. Even though it is AWD it has a FLAT REAR FLOOR with NO HUMP! THE ONLY GOOF IS GM DIDNT STAY ON THIs AND KEEP IMPROVING ON IT! The Acadia is what I’m supposed to buy now. No Way.

LISTEN UP GM - When Coca Cola canceled its long selling formula everyone went nuts! They had to return the old formula as COKE CLASSIC and it sold like hot cakes. The threat of OLD COKE was enough to cause a buying frenzy. IF GM HAD ANY GUTS IT WOULD BRING B
ACK the AZTEK!! BRING BACK … BRING BACK … oh Bring back my Aztek to ME … TO MEEE!!!

The Pioneer sound system is the best Ive had.

The first time I ever saw a Pontiac Aztek, I was on a divided highway, and had to go a mile to turn around. I just HAD to see who could have possibly designed such a hideous vehicle! It remains the worst looking piece of crap ever to come out of Detroit. No wonder The big 3 US auto makers are going down the drain!

I hope all of you happy Aztek owners realize that the rest of us wonder what’s wrong with you. We see your ugly car on the road or in the company parking lot and scratch our heads. What would cause someone to make such a poor decision on such an expensive item like a car? IT DOESN’T MATTER THAT YOU LIKE IT. That only makes you even more defective as a human being. Seriously, your friends may tell you they like it but THEY ARE ALL LAUGHING BENING YOUR BACK when you’re not around. Do yourself a favor and use a little bit taste when you buy your next car. If you have no taste find someone who else who has some to help you out. Don’t trust your own judgement to choose this helper. YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NONE. Ask around.

Wow, the Pontiac Ass-tek possible the ugliest car ever made. The term fugly doesn’t even come close to describing it. You know GM used to make good cars, then came the late 90’s and their cars started to get uglier and uglier. Even Toyota, with their boring and run-of-the-mill designs, look better than this junk. I drive a 1994 Olds Cutlass Cruiser station wagon and I can’t tell you how many people have complimented it and miss the old wagons that we’re cool and stylish while filling the niche now served by those godforsaken crossovers. Why is it automakers can’t understand that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.?

Wow…i dont get it, if you dont like the vehicle why spend so much time and energy on complaining about it…like get a life holy shit maybe deep down you really like the Aztek or something who knows. I dont even own one but Ive driven one and also considered buying one all i hear is good things about them yeah they may be ugly but whatever get over it. I wonder whats wrong with all the negative people out there who spend all there time on things they dont like lol god everyone has there own taste in vehicles why would we want to drive around in the same thing.

looking to buy a car, when I saw an aztec in a dealership, never heard of this car, but I like the way it looks. That being said, after reading review and review, my biggest concern is the vehicle has 155,000 kilometres, the dealer is going to repair the intake manifold, and I can buy the car for $5,500.00 canadian, the car itself is in great condition, and it includes the camping kit, whoever owned this vehicle before and kept it clean! But since so little of these cars were produced, and I have spoken to two mechanics who have never worked on them ever! (Both mechanics work in car sales), how does anyone get parts for these vehicles, do you have to go back to a dealership? Can your local garage order parts? Now that I am aware of these vehicles, I can’t find a single one in a parking lots, on the road. Does any one have any suggestions or help on this? Thanks

I have had 2 Aztek’s and love(d) both of them. I am sorry that they have been discontinued. I would buy another one right now if I could. What is surprising to me is all the cars that have copied the design. Everywhere you look, now,you can see small cars with the same basic shape as the Aztek. For a car that is so ugly, it sure set of a new wave of copies.

Hey,
I have a chance to buy a 02 aztec with a 101k miles. The guy said he used synthetic oil and changed it every whatever thousand of miles. The only thing is the sevice engine soon light is on, and he said that he has had it checked and they can’t find anything wrong with it. Is this possible ? He said he would take $5300 for it. Should I buy this ??

I bought a used 2003 last year with 85,000 miles on it. I drive 116 miles round trip a day to and from work. Regular oil changes and the recommended transmission fluid changes have kept it running well. I have had no problems with it and am now about to turn 147,000 miles. It might not be a beauty but I feel it’s very dependable. I have seen newer cars on the side of the road and have been blessed it’s not me. I haven’t seen a Pontiac Aztec on the side of the road yet.

OMG I had no idea so many dumb people exist. SWEET. More tax payers to fuel the globalist elites thirst for cranking out bad quality cars, esp if they know that people will buy them. It’s like encouraging your dog to pee inside.

What a joy reading this page. My ex talked me into getting an Aztek, and I still remember the thoughts going through my head when she asked if I wanted the Aztek or the Camry when we got divorced. Needless to say, much effort was used holding back the hysterical laughter. Needless to say, the Aztek through a piston during the divorce. I think the words I used when she asked if we could get one was, Dear God Why?.

Thank you Aztek for making Pontiac go into oblivion!

The 2001 Aztek I own is the worst car I have ever had, and at 59 yrs old I have had a few cars. If I knew then what I know now about this vehicle I never would have bought it. Waaaay too many gremlins possess this vehicle…I have experienced them all. I have just learned to live with them and deal with the idiosyncracies which I have had to communicate to my family members who have had to drive it. My wife hates it and sticks to our 2002 Kia Sedona (which is another story altogether. I must be a real glutton for punishment to buy two first year vehicles back to back). From the looks of the posts here it appears that alot of people have been fortunate and haven’t experienced the problems that are common to this vehicle, but to see the amount of complaints it is obvious that this SRV has been poorly designed in a lot of ways. All I can say is it is too bad President Obama doesn’t bail out all of the unfortunate consumers who have been stuck with this inferior product. GM (Gross Mismanagement) should be embarrassed.

Anyone who buys an Aztek should get a voucher for the optician.

There is nothing good about this piece of garbage and Pontiac has finally paid the price for its sin

Why does it seem that the only people here who have bad comments about the Aztek are people who have never used one. I love mine, and sure there were a few things that have needed to be fixed, but they were minor, and it is 8 years old now. I think that anyone who hasn’t actually used one shouldn’t comment on something that they don’t know.
