About six months ago, I was offered a presentation slot at the WeAreDevelopers World Congress in Berlin. I rarely take speaking engagements, especially international ones, but this one arrived at just the right time, the right place, and with the right person – I said yes, on the contingency that Ben Dumke-von der Ehe joins me in the presentation. Ben is an early community hire at Stack Overflow who lives in Berlin. We both had something important we wanted to talk about, with slightly different opinions, different perspectives.
Well I think everything goes in cycles, generally. We are in an AI cycle at the moment and trying to figure our way through it. Stack Overflow et al, had a peak and thats come and gone to some extent, thats not to say it isn’t important. It is, but less of a primary resource like it used to be. AI has taken over to some extent. It has consumed Stack Overflow. However it will go one of two ways, either AI will build upon and self learn from the seed of Stack Overflow corpus knowledge and kind of “kill off” Stack Overflow - or there will be a rejection of AI in some form and people will come back to Stack Overflow, maybe in a different way, but there will be a “return” or “re-cycle”.
